List of Vehicle Warning Signs. What Are They?

Knowing what the warning signs on your vehicle can be very important. There are many of them now on the modern car, such as, headlight beams, low engine oil, and low tire pressure. Knowing what sign is lighted on can help you as a driver dissect the problem, and get it repaired before it becomes a bigger issue.

Meaning

Check Engine Light
Indicates a problem with the engine or the emission system. It could range from a loose gas cap to serous engine problems.

Battery Warning Light
Signals a issue with the vehicle's charging system, such as, failing alternator, or a dying battery.

Oil Pressure Warning Light
Indicates low oil pressure, which could be due to low oil levels, a faulty oil pump, or a more serious matter.

Brake System Warning Light
It could indicate numerous issues, such as, low brake fluid, worn brake pads, or an issue with the brake system overall.

Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS) Light
Indicates low tire pressure when it is too low, or too high in one or more tires. Most vehicles after 2008 should have this feature. Most vehicles after 2017 should can now specify which tire is low to easily solve the problem.

Coolant Temperature Warning Light
Indicates that the engine is overheating, which could be due to low coolant levels, or a problem with the cooling system.

ABS Warning Light
Indicates a problem with the anti-lock braking system (ABS), which helps prevent wheels from locking during braking.

Traction Control Warning Light
Signals a problem with the traction control system, which helps prevent wheel spin during an acceleration.

Airbag Warning Light
Indicates a problem with the airbag system, which could mean the airbags may not deploy in case of an accident.

Service Vehicle Soon Light
This suggest the vehicle needs maintenance, or service soon. This is not a necessarily an immediate issue.

Security Indicator Light
It indicates there may be a issue with the vehicle's security system, such as, with the key, or the alarm system.

Fuel Warning Light
Alerts when the vehicle fuel level is low, and its time to refuel. Note when the needle gets on red, you have only three to five gallons of gas remaining. Also where the arrow is on the symbol indicates which side the gas tank is to fill up.
